BASEBALL FANS—Your Opportunity to Intimately Know Bobby Winkles
LEGENDARY NAMES IN BASEBALL ADMIRE BOBBY WINKLES
Legendary Tony La Russa, Detroit’s Dave Dombrowski and Roland Hemond of the Arizona Diamondbacks plus White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf all agree on one thing—BOBBY WINKLES was/is one of the greatest baseball minds of all time. My extensive, exclusive interviews with the four of them and many more legendary baseball players including Reggie Jackson and Roland Ryan support the view that Bobby Winkles is a special man on and off the baseball field. Their quotes are in the book.
Ironically, a lot of baseball fans have not heard of Bobby Winkles. That’s all going to change.
NEW BOOK FINISHED AND IN THE PUBLISHER’S HANDS
I have just finished my first non-fiction full-length book titled: BOBBY WINKLES: From the Cotton Fields to the Major Leagues—Perspectives on Baseball & Life. It’s certainly a book about baseball but, as important, it’s the personal story of a courageous man who grew up in the rural Arkansas town of Swifton; met the woman of his life, Ellie (oh, yes, this is a love story, too); offered a baseball contract right out of high school to play for the New York Yankees organization but encountered a road block; went on get his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at Illinois Wesleyan University; play minor league baseball for the White Sox during which time he also got his master’s degree at the University of Colorado.
ASU LEGEND & 40 YEARS IN PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL
Then on to coach ASU to three national championships in five years becoming an ASU legend. And onward to coach and manage in the major leagues for the California Angels and Oakland A’s, coach for the now World Champion San Francisco Giants, coach and head the farm system for the Chicago White Sox, and finally end his pro career coaching for the Montreal Expos.
HUMOR AND TRAGEDY
The book full of humorous stories but it’s not a “puff piece.” Bobby Winkles experienced six tragedies in his life (I call them “Detours” named after one of Bobby’s favorite songs), two of which were horrible devastating events that a lot of people wouldn’t be able to recover from. However, with the support of wife Ellie, Bobby recovered and thrived.
FOUR YEARS TO WRITE (WISH US WELL, PLEASE)
The book took me four years to write and the first publisher I wrote to a couple of weeks ago to seek their interest responded in the affirmative. The manuscript is in their hands now. Wish Bobby and I luck in publishing the book. I guarantee that you will enjoy the inspirational story of Bobby Winkles’ life. It was an honor to spend literally hundreds of hours with him in our collaboration to bring you the book.
